Get ready for an exciting update on the Seattle Mariners as they gear up for their spring training! The return of key players and the potential debut of top pitching prospects are creating a buzz among fans.
After a well-deserved day off, the Mariners are back and ready to face the '26 Angels in a highly anticipated game at Peoria Stadium. But here's where it gets controversial... the team's general manager hasn't ruled out the possibility of some of their top pitching prospects making their debut this season! With the World Baseball Classic participants now gone, the games take on a new dynamic. Younger players will get more playing time, and veterans will continue their typical buildup. Mariners manager Dan Wilson emphasizes the importance of finding the right balance as they move forward with a smaller player mix. "It's about mapping out a smart strategy and making sure we don't overdo it or fall short," he explains.
In a much-anticipated return, two veteran players will be back in the lineup on Tuesday. First, J.P. Crawford, the designated hitter, is back after dealing with a shoulder issue. He'll be restricted to hitting only for the remainder of the week. Secondly, Mitch Garver, who signed a minor league contract two weeks ago, will make his spring debut. The lineup for this exciting game includes:
- Brendan Donovan, 3B
- Rob Refsnyder, RF
- Luke Raley, LF
- Mitch Garver, C
- J.P. Crawford, DH
- Patrick Wisdom, 1B
- Ryan Bliss, 2B
- Colt Emerson, SS
- Rhylan Thomas, CF
- Bryan Woo, P
Additionally, several pitchers are scheduled to take the mound: Michael Morales, Michael Rucker, Cole Wilcox, Casey Legumina, Domingo Gonzalez, and Robinson Ortiz.
The first pitch for the Mariners' Cactus League game against the Los Angeles Angels is set for 12:10 p.m. Seattle time. You can catch the live radio broadcast starting at noon on the Seattle Sports app.
Now, here's a quick update on some key players:
- Bryce Miller, who experienced left oblique soreness after his Cactus League start last Thursday, is scheduled to play a light catch on Tuesday to assess his progress.
- Cole Young, who had an impressive 442-foot blast off a hanging slider on Sunday, is gaining momentum. Manager Wilson is pleased with Young's performance, despite an early 0 for 8 slump. "He's finding his groove at the plate, and we're excited to see him continue to develop," Wilson added.
The Mariners have not only lost players but also coaches to the World Baseball Classic. Two-thirds of the major league hitting staff are now coaching for Puerto Rico and Mexico, respectively. However, back in Peoria, hitting coach Kevin Seitzer has a strong support system with the Triple-A hitting staff and organizational coordinators pitching in.
In other news, George Kirby threw a sim game on Monday to stay on track, and all reports indicate a successful session. Luis Castillo also visited the complex to throw a bullpen session.
