Emergency services are responding to a critical incident on a major Welsh road, with four air ambulances deployed to the scene. The A55 Conwy Tunnel has been shut due to a serious crash, causing significant disruption. A Traffic Wales statement advised drivers to avoid the area, as the road is closed in both directions between the Penmaenmawr Tunnel and the Conwy Tunnel. North Wales Police confirmed that emergency services are attending to a severe road traffic collision on the A55 in Conwy, and diversions are in place. One of the air ambulances has already landed at Aintree Hospital in Liverpool, while two remain at the scene. The Welsh Ambulance Service dispatched four emergency ambulances and two high-acuity response units, supported by four off-duty paramedics and the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service. Three patients were taken to hospital for further treatment. The fire service was also called to assist at the scene. The road closures have led to heavy congestion and traffic queues, with the A547 Bangor Road also affected. Updates from Traffic Wales and North Wales Police will be provided as the situation develops.
